A student from Rivière-du-Loup receives the Marie-Curie scholarship from Université de Montréal

The Marie-Curie Scholarship was awarded to Valérie Hudon of Rivière-du-Loup, a Natural Sciences graduate of Collège de Rivière-du-Loup, by the Physics Department at Université de Montréal. The scholarship will finance a paid internship as part of a research group in the Physics Department at Université de Montréal. The Marie-Curie Scholarship was presented by the Vice-Rector for Research, Alain Caillé and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Mireille Mathieu.

Valérie Hudon is an outstanding student who has already received a number of honours in recognition of her contribution and involvement. These include the Governor General’s Medal for best cumulative average in secondary school; The Lieutenant Governor’s Prize for the best average in international education, the prize in mathematics and the prize in humanities for the best averages in these subjects—all in 1998. She is also active in a number of associations in her school and region.

The Marie-Curie Scholarship, created by the Physics Department of Université de Montréal, two years ago, is intended to help young women wishing to make a career as physicists. At this time only 12 to 15% of female students go on to study physics. The Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit.
