Death of the right honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau

On behalf of the entire community of the Université de Montréal, Mr. Robert Lacroix, Rector, wishes to express profound sadness at the news of the death of The Right Honourable Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

Mr. Trudeau was a very active member of the university, having been at various points a student, a professor, then doctor honoris causa. Recently, he was again involved in the life of the university in the creation of an award for excellence in law, the Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau Prize. This prize is awarded to a Master’s or Doctorate student whose research deals with social justice, Canadian federalism, or rights and liberties.

“Pierre-Elliott Trudeau was a great scholar whose intellectual rigour marked all of those who had the chance to meet him. Our thoughts are with his family on this day of mourning,” said Mr. Lacroix.
